The expression of art and creativity is one of my greatest treasures and for me, has been like a ‘balloon of inspiration’ throughout my life, lifting me up and supporting me up through my own personal deep grief and loss.
Art and creativity has continued to bless me with purposeful life direction in assisting others on their paths in the form of healing creative - wellbeing,
Since childhood, the act of creativity and the spirit and essence in which I make art has been my healing companion.
Life experience has given me an understanding and strong belief in how the human spirit holds its own capacity to access wisdom, make meaning and manifest its own paths to well-being. This has traversed full circle as I now share this combination of foundational skills and intrinsic ‘knowing’ as an artist with others, through my practices as an artist and Creative Wellbeing facillitator.
Through undertaking both an Advanced Diploma in Transpersonal Art Therapy at IKON Institute Australia, and a Diploma in Sensorimotor Art Therapy, I now blend and apply these skills and knowledges with creative techniques across various different individual, group, or community needs.
Having graduated in 2013, I went on to establish a creative health service for Childhood Cancer Support, where over to years I piloted, developed, co coordinated and facilitated creative wellbeing workshops and programs for the children undergoing treatment
for cancer and their families. Some of my proudest work was supporting children living with illness and their families offering art mediums and processes as a powerful non-verbal means to communicate, make meaning and express their experience, when no words can otherwise be found.
From early adulthood I have engaged in education and training across a range of art techniques and processes - painting, drawing, clay, collage, sculpture, textiles/sewing, ecological art and a diversity of mixed media.
In Art Therapy we traverse side-by-side as we journey along pathways through the act of Art. This is profound, healing and insightful in itself. New insights and understanding can be discovered. There is no analyzing, interpretation or judgment, just supportive space where participants can come to their own realizations, and make their own natural marks.
I am an avid lover of nature, art, floristry, textiles, camping, of being in the moment, and of finding gratitude in each day. I operate from a place of calm, quiet understanding and authenticity. I embrace cultural diversity and acknowledge different values, beliefs, and ways of being.
Guided by the wisdom of Nature, I work with this mantra:
“There is no ‘wrong way in art’.
A flower doesn’t bloom the ‘wrong way’
A bird doesn’t sing its song the ‘wrong way’
And the sky never has the ‘wrong’ hue of blue!
I find great joy in working with others in healing through connection to Art and Nature. In November, 2014, I undertook a lead role in facilitating a Nature Art therapeutic workshop for New Zealand's Nature Education Conference a bi - annual event where emphasis is placed on early childhood holistic education and the global nature movement . Some of my most joyful and inspirational experiences include facilitating art therapeutic workshops outdoors in powerful geological and community landscapes such as Uluru, NT and Minjerribah (Stradbroke Island), QLD.
Art made with intent along with thinking, feeling and relating with earth’s wisdom in mind helps us to explore and express ourselves authentically. It re-connects us to nature and to each other through the sharing of our art.
I currently enjoy being a part of Mudlines art and environment group and Canaipa connections art group in the Southern Moreton bay Islands, in beautiful Quandamooka Country, Brisbane, QLD.
I hold deep respect for Australia’s First Nations people and their integral symbiotic relationship to their natural world and their strength and resilience and growth in maintaining their culture where traditional and new worlds meet. Iam in continual search for ways I can acknowledge and listen and learn from this beautiful rich culture.
Practicing what I preach, in my own time I create my own art, making meaning and connection, continuing to discover new art techniques and mediums. Making art for myself enables me to engage in self-care & wellbeing.
With a warm, welcoming and present nature, I hold a space of no judgment, of unconditional positive regard as I work with people. This cradles learning and healing spaces of trust and support for a person or group to be, to explore, and to discover their own resources & ways of being, bringing healing, self-awareness and well being and joy.
I am very passionate about my role in combining the roles I bring as an artist, creative wellbeing facilitator, and lover of nature and Eco art ( making art in communion with the natural world).
I am honored to work side by side with individuals, groups and communities to provide Art and Creativity as a means for people to connect, express, explore, create, facilitating a safe gentle space to access fun and joy to grow and heal and so happy to be able to share my "Story cloth" modality as a uniquely creative - wellbeing offering.
